Does God really give us Sorrow? What should sorrow mean to us?
Blessing in Disguise

A letter to a friend who lost her husband and was in deep sorrow!
Basically, I see two ways by which God helps the human beings to reach Him. One, by creating situations which give happiness to human beings. The second, by creating situations which give sorrow to human beings. He has no third option. Neither He could transform one into another because, He Himself does not have control over His actions.
Both these happiness and sorrow are like ferocious rivers. I would call it as 'River of Happiness' and 'River of Sorrow'. We are all on one side of the river and He is on the other side. He creates situations in such a way that we are drawn towards these rivers from time to time simultaneously, alternatively or continuously. In any case, whether it is the 'river of happiness' or the 'river of sorrow', He wants us to plunge in to it, swim through and come out of it from the other side of the river to reach Him. The one who plunges into the river and not able to swim through and come out gets carried away by the stream and not been able to reach the other side. There are few who are able to swim across irrespective of the rivers, without plunging into the water and successful in reaching the other side. There are others who could make it to the other side even without a swim also. There are few who could even without getting into the river been able to bring the God from the other side to himself. There are many who are not aware of all such things.
In this case, I see that God has made you to plunge in to the 'river of sorrow'. What you need now is the great energy to swim towards the other side. God is also creating a situation that you get such energy to pass through by realizing that there is a very fine difference between the 'river of happiness' and the 'river of sorrow'. The moment one realizes that both the rivers are one and the same which vary only with time and causation, you would realize that the rivers are nothing but a means to reach the ultimate destination, the other side of the river, GOD.
Please be aware that you are not far from the state of 'Realization of God' and that is the Blessing in Disguise.
With kind regards
Suresh
