Dear Shri Suresh,
I thank you for your kind invitation to the Prize Distribution
function of the Online Essay Contest conducted recently for school and
College students. I really wish I could be there in person to join all
of you at the function. Since it is physically not possible let me
first congratulate you for this wonderful initiative to spread the
message of fighting against corruption and demanding for the citizens
the most vital right of good governance. And my congratulations and
good wishes to all the young persons who participated and special
praise to those whose essays have been chosen for the prizes.
Corruption has been allowed to erode the gains of our developmental
efforts mainly because we as a nation have been passive and much too
tolerant of this malaise. We cannot and should not wait for a Mahatma
to come and fight for this. Each of us should raise our voice and the
resultant roar should frighten the evil forces of corruption. What you
have started is indeed a very valuable movement for, once the youth of
the country recognise corruption as a weed to be destroyed from our
midst and show themselves as determined to fight it and not be
passive, we can, indeed, hope for a good future for the country. I
hope you will keep up this effort and people like us will be more than
willing to do our bit to strengthen the movement.
Once again my best wishes to all of you on this occasion,
Yours sincerely,
P Shankar
