133rd Birthday Celebration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Celebration – Press Release

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Trust, Chennai and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra in association with SIV-G (www.siv-g.org) conducted a nationwide Online Essay Contest for College and School Students on the theme ‘Integrity and Good Governance’ to commemorate the 133rd Birthday Celebration of Sardar Patel, which falls on 31st October. 

There were 136 Registrations from all over the country.  29 essays were received and evaluated by a panel of Jury consisting of S/Shri Charukesi Vishwanathan, a well known writer and freelance Journalist, Prof Balakrishnan M, Swinburne University of Technology in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia and Mr. V. Sivakumar, Regional Director, PCRA, Chennai.

The Judges evaluated the essays and results were declared on 25th October 2008.  Prabhu V of Loyala College, Chennai won the First Prize.  Akanksha Gulia of Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh bagged the Second Prize and Krithika Prakash of DAV Girls Sr Secondary School, Gopalapuram, Chennai got the Third Prize.

A public function was held on 31st October 2008 at 6.15 p.m. at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai.  S/Shri V.R. Lakshmi Narayanan, IPS (Retd), former DGP & Chairman< Bharatiya Vidya Bhava, Chennai Kendra, P. Shankar, IAS(Retd), former Central Vigilance Commissioner, A.K. Venkatasubramanian, IAS(Retd.), former Secretary to Government of India, Dr. R. Rajagopalan, IPS (Retd), former Director General of Police addressed the gathering and distributed Prizes.  Shri N. Sugalchand Jain, Chairman, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Trust welcomed the gathering.  Shri G. Suresh, Founder, SIV-G & Convener of the Contest gave a brief note on the Online Essay Contest.  Shri C.S. Veeraraghavan, Honorary Secretary, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Trust extended the Vote of thanks.

 Earlier in the morning, the Members of the Committee & Trust Garlanded the Statue of Sardar Patel at Sardar Patel Road, near Raj Bhavan.
